NEW DELHI: Two people died when a SUV, part of the cavalcade of Karan Bhushan Singh, the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj and son of BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh, collided with a motorcycle in the Colonelganj police station jurisdiction of Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.
The driver of the SUV, Luvkush Srivastava, has been apprehended by the authorities in connection with the fatal accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the convoy was traveling on the Colonelganj-Hujoorpur Road near Baikunth Degree College when the accident took place. The impact of the collision was so severe that the two young men on the motorcycle succumbed to their injuries.
Police have impounded the vehicle involved in the accident and have taken custody of the deceased’s bodies for further investigation.
Additional SP Radhe Shyam Rai said, “Rehan and Shehzad, the two were on the bike when they met an accident. Police took them to hospital where both were declared dead. Bodies are sent for the postmortem. A case has been registered under the appropriate sections. Fortuner has been taken into custody. The driver of the SUV is also arrested.”
It remains unclear whether Karan Bhushan Singh was present in the convoy at the time of the accident, as his name has not been mentioned in the preliminary report. Brij Bhushan Singh, Karan’s father, is currently embroiled in an ongoing legal dispute with women wrestlers.
