Mumbai BKC residents get ‘work from home’ amid Anant- Radhika wedding: Here are 5 WFH blunders to avoid – Times of India

India is about to witness one of the biggest weddings of all time. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant will tie the knot today, July 12, in what will be an international affair. Due to the traffic restrictions in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), several companies have instructed their employees to work from home from July 12 to July 15, 2024. Another reason for this precaution is the heavy rainfall forecasted by the IMD.
Working from the comfort of your home seems to be like a dream come true, but let us tell you, it also comes with its own pitfalls. Here are five blunders you should avoid while working from home.

Not following a routine

While working from home, the first thing we tend to slack on is a well-planned routine. A routine helps in prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively. Knowing what to do and when to do it minimizes wasted time and increases efficiency. With a routine, you can allocate specific time slots for various tasks, ensuring that important tasks are completed on time without last-minute rushes.
Not maintaining your schedule can lead to decreased productivity, affecting your work-life balance. Establish a consistent schedule that includes specific working hours and breaks and stick to it.

Sitting at a corner with poor internet connectivity

One of the biggest challenges of working from home (WFH) is poor internet connectivity. Sometimes, in the search for a quiet place at home, we end up in areas with weak signals. During WFH, people often have more video calls and online meetings to manage the workflow. However, poor connectivity can disrupt your workflow, making it difficult to join meetings and potentially leading your teammates to think you are making excuses.
Therefore, before you begin working from home, ensure that your internet connectivity is reliable and that you have a strong signal during your working hours.

Keeping our workspace unorganized

While working from home, it’s easy to let your workspace become unorganized. Some may even consider working from their bed, which is not a good idea at all. An unorganized workspace can lead to a loss of focus and productivity and can eventually make you feel lazy and unmotivated. This can make it difficult for you to concentrate on your daily tasks as well.
Therefore, it is necessary to set up a dedicated workspace to work efficiently and complete your tasks within the given deadlines.

Procrastination

One of the biggest pitfalls of WFH is procrastination. When you delay your work, you are more likely to miss deadlines and produce lower-quality work due to rushing. Procrastination leads to an increase in workload and last-minute stress. Therefore, it is crucial to use your time effectively to complete your work on time.

Overworking

Sometimes, when we work from home, the line between work and personal life disappears. Your manager might ask you to work more just because you are at home. Occasionally, this is fine, but if it becomes a habit, it can be harmful. Overworking regularly can lead to a feeling of being overwhelmed and eventually to burnout. This directly affects your productivity and the quality of your work.
Therefore, it is important to set boundaries to ensure that you don’t end up working longer than your designated hours.
