Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rain since Thursday, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion

MUMBAI: Mumbai has been hit by heavy rain since Thursday morning, causing significant waterlogging and traffic congestion across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) forecast moderate to heavy rain for Mumbai and its suburbs throughout the day. High tide waves of 3.78 meters at around 10 am and 3.23 meters at around 9:30 pm are also expected in the coastal areas, according to the BMC.
The IMD also predicted light to moderate rainfall in various other regions, including the western coast areas of Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala, as well as northern regions like Jammu & Kashmir, west Uttarakhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, West Assam, East Telangana, and north coastal Andhra Pradesh. These areas may experience isolated thunderstorms and lightning within the next three hours.
In the last 24 hours, Mumbai’s Central Region recorded an average rainfall of 83 mm, while the Eastern Suburbs received 45 mm and the Western Suburbs registered 39 mm. Colaba saw the heaviest rainfall in the city with 51.8 mm, followed by Santacruz at 27 mm.
“Moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Maharashtra during the next 3-4 hours,” the IMD stated.
As the situation continues to develop, residents in Mumbai and surrounding areas are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution during travel.
