Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian woman wrestler to reach Olympic final, assures at least a silver | Paris Olympics 2024 News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday created history, becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final of the Olympic Games.
She secured her place in the final with a convincing 5-0 victory over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in 50kg category in Paris, guaranteeing herself at least a silver medal.

Both competitors began cautiously, but a passivity clock on Lopez provided Vinesh with one technical point after the Cuban wrestler failed to take any risks.
Vinesh led 1-0 at the end of the first period.
In the second period, Vinesh Phogat extended her lead to seal the match in her favor, adding four more points.
Vinesh’s journey to the semifinals was marked by two remarkable victories.
She triumphed over reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki of Japan and overcame Ukraine’s eighth seed Oksana Livach.
Previously, Vinesh experienced early exits in the quarter-finals during the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Vinesh’s final is scheduled for tomorrow.
