Returning cast and new faces
Rajkummar Rao returns as Vicky, the protagonist who previously faced off against the mysterious Stree. Shraddha Kapoor also makes a comeback as her enigmatic character, whose identity continues to be a puzzle for the audience. Alongside them, familiar faces from the first film, including Pankaj Tripathi as Rudra, Abhishek Banerjee as Jana, Aparshakti Khurana as Bittu, and Sunita Rajwar as Jana’s mother, will be returning. However, ‘Stree 2’ isn’t just about revisiting old characters. Tamannaah Bhatia joins the cast in a pivotal role, playing a character named Shama. Although she was first introduced in a special appearance in the song ‘Aaj Ki Raat,’ the film’s trailer reveals that she will play a crucial role in the storyline, potentially as a key figure connected to the supernatural antagonist.
Story
The plot of ‘Stree 2’ delves deeper into the supernatural, with the town of Chanderi once again at the center of mysterious occurrences. This time, the terror comes from a headless monster known as Sarkate, who has been kidnapping women in the town. As the residents live in fear, Vicky, Rudra, Jana, and Bittu, along with Shraddha Kapoor’s unnamed character, devise a plan to confront this new threat.

Certification and runtime
According to Bollywood Hungama, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted ‘Stree 2’ a U/A rating, advising parental discretion for viewers under 12 years of age. The film has a runtime of 149 minutes and 29 seconds (approximately 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 29 seconds). The CBFC also recommended a few minor changes, such as replacing mentions of certain celebrities and muting the name of a national monument.
Behind the scenes
The development of ‘Stree 2’ wasn’t without its challenges. After the success of the original film, a rift occurred between writer-director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (commonly known as Raj and DK) and producer Dinesh Vijan. The disagreement centered around the credits and rights related to ‘Stree.’ However, the matter was eventually resolved amicably, with the producer retaining all copyright and intellectual property rights to the film. Although Raj and DK wrote the screenplay for the first film, the script for ‘Stree 2’ was penned by Niren Bhatt, who also worked on ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Munjya.’
Release date and box office clash
‘Stree 2’ is set to hit theaters on August 15, 2024, a date that will see it competing with other major releases, including John Abraham and Sharvari’s ‘Vedaa,’ Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein,’ and the Vikram-starrer ‘Thangalaan.’ With such a crowded lineup, ‘Stree 2’ will undoubtedly have to stand out to make its mark at the box office.
