Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Stre 2’ is minting big at the box office. The film set the cash registers ringing since day one, as it earned over Rs 50 crore at the domestic level. The horror drama went on to earn over Rs 291 crore at the end of its eight-day extended first weekend.
Continuing with its glorious run, ‘Stree 2‘ has now crossed Rs 400 crore at the global level.According to Sacnilk, the domestic box office collection of the film stands at Rs 350 crore, while the overseas business is approximately Rs 65 crore. With these figures, the global collection of the film stands at Rs 415, at the end of its first week.
Stree 2 is now the highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year, surpassing Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter, which earned around 359 crores worldwide earlier this year. By the second Saturday, Stree 2 is set to become the biggest Bollywood hit since Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, and by Sunday, the film is expected to cross 500 crore globally.
In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik had shared how they had no plans for the sequel. He had revealed, “When we were making Stree, I was making it only to make my first film. Like, if you remember, in the climax of the film, Shraddha is talking about Stree’s ‘choti’, actually it was not part of the original script , it came on the set . I just thought about it, and we asked our art team to get one ‘choti’ just two days before the shoot day. In fact, the chopping of the choti portion was shot after we shot the end scene of the film in the bus . We had also thought that we might not keep the ‘choti’ portion in the edit, and if you notice we even shot that scene in the bus in a very hurried way, like when Shraddha disappears, there’s only one camera on the conductor and we pan – that’s it! However, it worked and there was also another ending, wherein Stree comes back to the town, but you don’t know if she enters the town or not as it’s written ‘ Oh Stree raksha karna’, and we ended it there…”
