The video that has set the internet abuzz, was shared by Reynolds on his social media, and features Tatum as the popular X-Men mutant Gambit, in a scene that appears to take place in the Void. The teaser clip appears to be linked to the aftermath of the major battle with the villainous Cassandra Nova and her group of mutants.
Initially, it was believed that only Dafne Keen’s character X-23 survived the battle in the Void, but the new clip hints that Gambit may have also escaped, suggesting a possible revival of the shelved movie.
“*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle #DeadpoolAndWolverine @slevydirect @channingtatum #Gambit,” Reynolds captioned the clip.
This has led to widespread speculation among fans that Shawn Levy, who helmed ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will return to the director’s chair for the possible new movie.
The video has fuelled hopes that Tatum, who has been vocal about his desire to portray Gambit, might finally see his dream realised. The actor has long been attached to the role, having spent four years developing a standalone ‘Gambit’ film with his producing partner, Reid Carolin, before the project was put on hold following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.
At the recent premiere of ‘Blink Twice’ in West Hollywood, Tatum expressed his eagerness to bring Gambit to the big screen. “I sure hope so,” he told Variety. Tatum also revealed that he has communicated his desire to Marvel Studios, saying, “Of course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
Tatum’s enthusiasm for the character was further highlighted in a heartfelt Instagram post in late July, where he thanked Reynolds for bringing his Gambit to life. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever,” Tatum wrote, adding that Reynolds “fought for me and Gambit.”
The video has sparked a flurry of reactions from fans on social media, with many expressing excitement at the possibility of a ‘Gambit’ movie finally coming to screens. “DOES THIS MEAN WHAT I THINK IT MEANS,” asked a fan.
Another said, “This definitely should have been one of the mid- or post-credit scenes. It would have been perfect!”
“So cool! Let’s have him back for more!” said another.
Some are already speculating about how the character could be integrated into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, while others are eagerly awaiting official confirmation of Shawn Levy’s involvement as director after word spread last month that the director was in talks with Marvel to direct another superhero movie. However, at the time, it was rumoured that the director was possibly returning to helm ‘Avengers 5 and 6’.
It was later revealed at Comic-Con that director duo Joe and Anthony Russo would return to helm ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
