Big blow to Jagan Reddy as 2 YSRCP MPs quit Rajya Sabha; likely to join Naidu’s TDP | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Two YSRCP Rajya Sabha MPs on Thursday resigned from the Upper House membership, a development which would further weaken the Jagan Mohan’s party which faced a rout in this year’s Lok Sabha and Andhra assembly polls.
Beedha Mastan Rao Jadhav and Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi tendered their resignation to Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, parliamentary sources told news agency PTI on Thursday.
Jagdeep Dhankhar has accepted their resignation, the sources said.
Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi confirmed quitting the party before he resigned from Rajya Sabha membership. He had a term till June 2026.
Sources told TOI that industrialists Beedha Mastan Rao and Mopidevi are likely to join TDP as they have already met chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and expressed their willingness to join the party.
While Rao is likely to be renominated to Rajya Sabha in by-election, Mopidevi may join TDP unconditionally.
TDP, which was left with no representation in Rajya Sabha, will make re-entry with YSRCP MPs’ resignation as it would win all the seats in by-elections without contest.
Sources said that Mopidevi was upset with the party leadership since he was denied ticket to contest the recent assembly election. Mopidevi represented Kuchinapudi twice and Repalle seat once. He had also served as legislative council member.
A loyalist of ex-Andhra CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mopidevi was the first minister to be arrested by CBI in connection with the probe into the disproportionate assets case of Jagan in 2012. After getting bail, Mopidevi joined YSRCP but lost 2014 and 2019 elections from Repalle.
However, Jagan inducted him into the cabinet and later brought him to the legislative council.
