Shriya Pilgaonkar speaks out on being labelled as an OTT actor – Times of India

Shriya Pilgaonkar has achieved significant success on the digital platform with two sequels, ‘The Broken News Season 2‘ and ‘Taaza Khabar Season 2‘, both receiving positive responses.
According to the Hindustan Times report, she expressed that her love for ‘Taaza Khabar’ feels akin to the success of a commercial film, highlighting the audience’s affection for the series.
While Shriya takes pride in her work in the OTT space, she finds that she is often labeled as an “OTT actor.” She observes that the film industry tends to categorize performers too quickly, which restricts creative thinking about their potential. In her interviews, she has noticed that many introduce her as an OTT actor, but she believes these labels are not very significant in today’s context.
The actress believes that credibility and equity are essential for performers in the entertainment industry. She emphasizes the importance of being recognized as a credible actor but also acknowledges the need for balance. Shriya notes that the treatment of projects varies by medium, observing differences between the success of hit OTT series and films. She points out that perceptions differ significantly due to how public relations and film promotions are handled.
Pilgaonkar admits that most of her projects on OTT have been coincidental. She explains that often, it’s unclear whether a film will be released theatrically or on OTT. Over the past five years, the industry has evolved, with some major films not succeeding. Consequently, her priority in selecting work has been based on the script, and she has found that the scripts she enjoys tend to be on streaming platforms. However, she emphasises the importance of balancing her work in series with film roles, even if they are not theatrical releases.
