The fifth edition of Basti BBQ, a heartwarming initiative by Arjun Meghe, President of Insaniyat Association, brought an evening of laughter, food, and joy to over 300 underprivileged children and their families in Worli’s Maya Nagar basti on November 15. Organised annually on Children’s Day for the past five years, the event has grown into a meaningful tradition, creating unforgettable memories and fostering a sense of community.
Held opposite the Campa Cola Compound, this year’s event transformed the neighbourhood into a lively carnival with music, food, and activities, bringing smiles to the faces of children who rarely have access to such experiences.
A vibrant carnival of lights and togetherness
The Maya Nagar basti came alive with the festive setup of Basti BBQ 5.0. The space was adorned with colourful lights, bustling food stalls, a stage for performances, and a podium for interactive games. Loudspeakers played upbeat music, creating an atmosphere of celebration. Children and their parents joined the festivities, filling the evening with energy and excitement.
This annual event, organised by Insaniyat Association, a non-profit organisation aimed at bringing lasting change through social development, serves as a unique initiative to bring joy to underprivileged children on Children’s Day. For many families, it has become a cherished tradition—a day to connect with neighbours, enjoy a vibrant community spirit, and create lasting memories.
Tokens of joy: A culinary feast
A highlight of Basti BBQ 5.0 was the food, generously provided by sponsors. Each child received free tokens to redeem at stalls offering premium treats from brands like Baskin Robbins (ice creams), Trufalafel (falafels), Toast Doughnut Shop (doughnuts), Lil Gamby (pizza), Maroosh (rolls), and The Juice Co (juices). The excitement on their faces spoke volumes.

Art and face-painting stations allowed children to explore their creativity through drawing and painting, while live music and performances kept everyone entertained. The vibrant atmosphere created a space where children and their families could leave their worries behind, even if only for a few hours.

For five years, Basti BBQ has been a cornerstone of Children’s Day celebrations in Worli.
