New Delhi: Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) have collectively filled 25,777 posts, including 15,139 faculty positions, as of Oct 29, 2024, education minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed Lok Sabha on Monday.
Of these, 1,869 were reserved for SCs, 739 for STs, 3,089 for OBCs and 254 for PwDs, he said. His response was to a question by JMM’s Vijay Kumar Hansdak who asked education ministry about filled and vacant positions in CHEIs, including IITs, IIITs, NITs, IIMs and IISERs, as well as “steps taken/proposed to be taken by the govt to fill up such vacancies, including vacancies reserved for SCs, STs, OBCs and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)”.
Pradhan emphasised that vacancies arise due to factors such as retirements, resignations, promotions, and institutional expansions. “Filling these positions is a continuous process,” the minister said.
He also drew attention to the implementation of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers Cadre) Act, 2019, saying to accelerate recruitment, CHEIs have been directed to conduct drives under “mission mode”. “Since Sept 2022, these efforts have targeted all categories, including SCs, STs, OBCs, and PwDs,” Pradhan noted.
