‘Don’t know whose body was burnt’: Hathras gang-rape victim’s family writes to Rahul Gandhi | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress on Thursday shared a letter allegedly written by Hathras rape victim‘s father following which Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the family.
“The victim’s family of Hathras had written a letter to the Leader of Opposition Mr. @RahulGandhi demanding justice. After this letter, Mr Rahul Gandhi came to meet the victim’s family today,” the party said, sharing the letter.

The letter, which was directly addressed to the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, expressed how the family was yet to witness the promises made by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath manifest into reality and get justice into the incident that took place on September 14, 2020.
Expressing despair over the handling of the matter by state authorities and the court, Omprakash said that the UP administration cremated the victim’s body without the permission of the family.
“My daughter was gang-raped and her spine was broken and her body was also mutilated. After that, my daughter was murdered by the administration in the dark of night without the permission of my family. It was burnt by pouring kerosene at 2.30pm. Till today I and my family do not even know whose body was burnt,” it said.
“Honorable Rahul Gandhi Ji, I want to inform you that Honorable Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath Ji had given a written assurance to my family that one of the members of my family would be given a job and a house, but till now neither a job nor a house has been given,” the letter further said.

‘Life of imprisonment under CRPF security’

The letter said that the victim’s family felt “imprisoned” under the security provided by the CRPF “and there is no employment and no one is able to go out for employment.”
The father said that the accused, who had been granted bail, were roaming free and “we are staying at home and serving a prison sentence for four years.”
Gandhi spent approximately 35 minutes interacting with the family at their home before leaving without addressing the group of reporters who had gathered in the village for his visit.
