GUNTUR: A well-known ENT surgeon in the city, Dr Chalamalasetty Neelima is slowly becoming an international star athlete from India as she had already
emerged as a new champion in the kettlebell lifting sport. A profound medical professional’s casual decision to pick up Kettlebell as a routine fitness exercise about three years ago, has landed her on podium at several national and international tournaments in the last three years.
Dr Neelima bagged two silver medals at WKSF Asian championship which was held for the first time in India last December. She secured both medals in the 16kg kettlebell category. Dr Neelima, who is otherwise busy with practice at her hospital, has achieved yet another medal in the national games held recently, prompting her to become a full-time athlete in the game. “I started it for my physical fitness. I have upped the scales out of curiosity which led me to emerge as champion at national and international events. I owe a lot to my husband and my trainer Md Javeed,” Dr Neelima told ‘TOI.’
Dr Neelima participated in GSIF national level Kettlebell championship in the beginner’s category in three events with 8kgs kettlebell in 2022 and achieved gold medals in all three events. The stunning performance at the national events has left her surprised and made her dedicate more time for the training sessions. Curiously, Dr Neelima’s coach Mohammed Javeed Ahmed and his son Mohammed Anas who have also participated in the national championship too bagged gold medals in their respective categories.
Dr Neelima surpassed the previous records and snatched four gold medals at GSIF national kettlebell championship held in Pune in March 2023. She secured gold medals in double 12 kg and double 8 kg. Her trainer Javeed had also secured three gold medals at the national event including one in 20kg and double in 16kg category. His son Anas achieved one gold in the 24 kg kettlebell under- 16 category. “With her persistent efforts, discipline, dedication and perseverance, Dr Neelima has scaled new heights and participated in elite category at the 2024 national kettlebell championship in 16kgs kettlebell.
