NAGPUR: A pack of stray dogs killed a three-year-old boy on the outskirts of Nagpur on Tuesday. Vansh Shahane, born after his mother underwent protracted medical intervention against infertility that cost Rs 3 lakh, was their miracle baby after five years of marriage, reported. He had stepped out to play and strayed into a lonely stretch in Ganesh Nagar area of Mouda when he was attacked by the dog pack.
Shocked and scared, Mouda residents surrounded the local police station on Wednesday and demanded immediate steps to evict the marauding canines.”The dogs had earlier ripped off an ear of a cop’s six-year-old daughter at police quarters, but nothing was done to stop the menace,” the boy’s father, Ankush, said.
While the dogs were mauling the toddler, a shocked passerby risked his life to chase the pack away with a hail of stones. Residents, including the toddler’s parents, did not hear his screams. By the time help arrived, the boy was barely breathing.
SP Nagpur (Rural) H A Poddar said, “It’s a tragic incident and we will have to move fast to stop the menace.” Police registered a case of accidental death.
