NEW DELHI: Two officials from the Yerawada police station in Pune have been suspended on Friday for neglecting their duties related to the Porsche car crash incident, officials said. The crash, which involved a minor driving the vehicle resulted in the death of two software professionals on May 19 in the Kalyani Nagar area of the city.
“Police Inspector (PI) Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector (API), Vishwanath Todkari, posted at Yerwada police station, have been suspended as they did not inform the wireless control room about the accident” said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
According to additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil, the suspended officials were found to have reported the incident late and failed to perform their duties adequately.
Amitesh Kumar had earlier stated that attempts were made to make it appear that the minor was not driving the car at the time of the accident.
Kumar had also said that an internal inquiry revealed lapses on the part of the police officials while registering the case.
He confirmed there was a delay in collecting the blood samples of the juvenile, who was suspected of consuming alcohol at two pubs before the accident. The accident occurred around 3 am on Sunday, but the blood samples were only collected at 11 pm, as per the commissioner’s statement.
Further details regarding the specific circumstances surrounding the officers’ misconduct have not been disclosed at this time.
A court in Pune on Friday sent Vishal Agarwal, the father of a 17-year-old involved in a fatal car crash and five other accused to judicial custody until June 7.
The prosecution sought an extension of their police custody for further investigation, but the court decided to remand them in judicial custody instead.
