Excise case: Delhi court extends Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till July 3 | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia until July 3 in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise scam.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja made the decision to extend Sisodia’s remand during a virtual court session, where he appeared from jail upon the expiration of his previous judicial custody.
During the proceedings, the judge instructed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to provide a copy of the recently filed charge sheet to Sisodia and other co-accused, with the name of a protected witness redacted.
Furthermore, the court granted a one-month period to the counsel representing the accused to review the documents at the ED office. The counsel for AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, also a co-accused in the case, informed the court that substantial time, approximately 90 to 100 hours, would be required to scrutinize the documents. Similar requests for additional time were made by the counsel representing other accused individuals.
In response, the court directed the ED to ensure appropriate arrangements for the accused and their legal representatives to access the documents at its offices.
The ED had arrested Sisodia on March 9 last year in connection with the liquor policy case. Prior to this, he had been apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during its investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the formulation and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
As of now, Sisodia remains in judicial custody in both cases, awaiting further legal proceedings.
