Five Maoists killed in encounter in Bastar | India News – Times of India



RAIPUR: Five Maoists were killed and three security personnel were injured during a day-long encounter in a joint anti-Naxal operation on borders of Narayanpur district of Bastar region on Friday.
A joint operation was launched by security personnel of District Reserve Guards from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur and Kondagaon districts and 45th bn of Indo Tibetan Border Police jawans, who proceeded towards Gobel region located between Narayanpur and Kondagaon inter-district borders.There were inputs about the presence of Maoists from the West Bastar division scattered in villages of Mungedi and Gobel.
Police officials said that an exchange of fire took place between Maoists and security forces and the gun fight went on for the whole day in brief intervals before Naxals retreated into forest. Four uniformed bodies of Naxalites were recovered along with weapon from the site of encounter.
A statement issued by Narayanpur police stated that there were many Naxals injured in the encounter who managed to escape with the help of their cadres.
Three DRG jawans were injured during the encounter and their condition is stated to be stable.
The search was still underway and the identification of deceased will be revealed soon, police said.
Maoists on Wednesday had targeted the newly set-up security camp in Abujhmarh region and had launched BGLs. While there was no casualty reported, a brief exchange of fire took place between Maoists and security personnel at the camp.
In all, around 127 Maoists have been killed in past four-five months in LWE regions of Chhattisgarh amid allegations of fake encounter in Bijapur and Narayanpur districts in recent past.
