World’s oldest man Swami Sivananda graces International Yoga Day event in Mumbai – Times of India



NEW DELHI: Ahead of the International Yoga Day on June 21, the Shlloka Joshii Foundation organised a grand event, spotlighting yoga practices through visual demonstrations.
Padma Shri Swami Sivananda, celebrated as the oldest living man at 127 years, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. He showcased his yoga skills during the event.
The event also saw the presence of Bollywood director Subhash Ghai.
Following the yoga demonstrations, a panel discussion was held with the distinguished guests to delve into the significance and advantages of yoga.
Swami Sivananda, a monk from Varanasi, is noted for practicing yoga daily and performing all rituals independently. He upholds a simple lifestyle, maintains a plain diet, and dedicates himself to selfless service.
Yoga, an ancient practice combining physical, mental, and spiritual elements, originated in India. The term ‘yoga’ comes from Sanskrit, meaning to join or unite, symbolizing the fusion of body and consciousness.
Since 2015, June 21 has been globally recognized as International Day of Yoga, following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.
Various yoga events are being organized across India and internationally ahead of International Yoga Day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to reaffirm their commitment to integrating yoga into their lives as International Day of Yoga approaches.
PM Modi shared videos on X, demonstrating various ‘Asanas’ and highlighting their benefits.
“As Yoga Day approaches, I am sharing a set of videos that will offer guidance on various Asanas and their benefits. I hope this inspires you all to practice Yoga regularly,” the Prime Minister posted on X.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of making yoga a regular part of our lives and encouraging others to do the same.
“As we approach this year’s Yoga Day, it is essential to reiterate our commitment to making Yoga an integral part of our lives and also encouraging others to make it a part of theirs. Yoga offers a sanctuary of calm, enabling us to navigate life’s challenges with calm and fortitude,” PM Modi stated.
“In ten days from now, the world will mark the 10th International Day of Yoga, celebrating a timeless practice that celebrates oneness and harmony. Yoga has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, uniting millions across the globe in the pursuit of holistic well-being,” he added in a subsequent post.
