Aamir Khan recently opened up about the guilt he feels for prioritizing his career over his family. In a candid conversation on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast, Chapter 2, Aamir shared his regrets about not being present for his children daughter Ira, and sons Junaid and Azad.
Reflecting on his past choices, Aamir revealed, “Ira was struggling with depression at the time, she is much better now.But then she needed me. Junaid is starting his career… If I am not with him at this time, then what’s the point? Azad is 9 years old now. In another 3 years, he will be a teenager. His childhood won’t come back.” The actor admitted that he was so engaged in his work and career that he knew more about his team members and directors than his own children’s lives.
The pandemic served as a wake-up call for Aamir, making him realize how much he had missed out on. “I had no idea about their feelings, problems, or challenges. But I knew everything about my team and directors,” he admitted, expressing how this realization filled him with regret and anger towards himself. It was during this introspective period that Aamir decided to quit films, at least for a time, to make up for the lost years with his family.
Aamir also mentioned that while his family did ask for his time occasionally, they never pressured him, believing that he was deeply immersed in his work. The turning point, he says, came when he understood the importance of being present in the lives of his loved ones. “I had left films, but I rejoined,” Aamir added, noting that he has since been making a conscious effort to balance his professional and personal life.
