SRINAGAR: Political parties in J&K Saturday voiced their strong opposition to Centre’s move to vest more powers to the LG for taking decisions on matters related to police and all-India service officers.
National Conference and PDP said the decision would “disempower” people of J&K.
NC vice-prez Omar Abdullah said the people of J&K deserve better than a “powerless, rubber stamp” CM, who will have to beg the LG to get a peon appointed.”This is why a firm commitment laying out the timeline for restoration of full, undiluted statehood for J&K is a prerequisite for these elections…,” he said.
Former CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said Centre wants to further disempower people of J&K by way of this new order. “Govt wants to convert J-K’s assembly, which was once very powerful, into a municipality so that any govt in J-K tomorrow doesn’t have any power to even transfer its own employee or take action against anyone,” Mufti said on X.
