Baahubali, RRR: Iconic films shot at Ramoji Film City | – Times of India



As the founder of the world’s largest film studio, Ramoji Rao passes away, it is fitting to celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. Ramoji Film City, inaugurated in 1996 and sprawling over 1,666 acres near Hyderabad, has been the home of some of the biggest juggernauts in Indian cinema.
Baahubali I and II
Directed by S.S. Rajamouli and starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty, these epic films just changed the dynamics of South Indian cinema with their grand scale and storytelling.The plot follows the journey of two warring brothers and their battle for the throne of Mahishmati. The films are renowned for their groundbreaking visual effects and massive set designs, all brought to life at Ramoji Film City.
RRR
Another magnum opus by S.S. Rajamouli, ‘RRR’ features Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles. This historical drama is about the lives of two Indian revolutionaries fighting against British colonial rule. The film’s elaborate action sequences and period settings highlight the versatility of Ramoji Film City’s facilities.
Pokiri
Starring Mahesh Babu and Ileana D’Cruz, ‘Pokiri’ is a Telugu action thriller that became a blockbuster hit. The film’s unique storyline follows an undercover cop who infiltrates a mafia gang to bring them down.

Chennai Express
Directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, this romantic comedy follows the adventures of a man travelling to fulfil his grandfather’s last wish, only to meet the love of his life along the way. The film’s vibrant scenes benefited greatly from the diverse locations at Ramoji Film City.
Ponniyin Selvan: I & II
Mani Ratnam’s epic historical drama features an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, and Karthi. The films are adaptations of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novels, narrating the story of the Chola dynasty’s power struggles. The film’s grand sets and historical authenticity were beautifully shot at Ramoji Film City.
Pushpa: The Rise
Starring Allu Arjun, this action-packed film follows the rise of a labourer to become the boss of the Red Sandalwood smuggling syndicate. The film’s rugged and realistic depiction of the forest smuggling world was effectively shot at Ramoji Film City, with the sequel, ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ currently in production there as well. The movie will be released on August 15, 2024.

Ghajini
This psychological thriller, starring Aamir Khan and Asin, follows a man suffering from short-term memory loss as he seeks revenge for his fiancée’s murder.
More Bollywood epics from the comedic adventures of ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’ to the superhero saga of ‘Krrish 3’ and the bold storytelling of ‘Dirty Picture’, Ramoji Film City has provided the perfect location for their stories.
Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo
Starring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde, this Telugu blockbuster combines drama and humour in the story of a man who discovers his true lineage. The film’s lively musical numbers and lavish sets were brought to life at Ramoji Film City.

Robot
Directed by Shankar and starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai, ‘Robot’ (Enthiran) is a sci-fi marvel about a humanoid robot that turns against its creator. The film’s futuristic sets and innovative visual effects were significantly enhanced by the facilities at Ramoji Film City.
Ramoji Film City’s contribution to Indian cinema is unmatched and Ramoji Rao’s legacy will continue for generations to come.
