NEW DELHI: Western Railway on Sunday imposed temporary restrictions on the sale of platform tickets at selected stations of Mumbai Division to manage the over-crowding and ensure smooth passenger movement within stations.
A notice issued by Western Railway said, “In anticipation of a heavy rush during the forthcoming festive season, WR has imposed temporary restrictions on the sale of platform tickets at Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra Terminus, Borivali, Vasai Road, Vapi, Valsad, Udhna and Surat stations of Mumbai Division.”
The restriction on platform ticket sales is effective immediately until November 8, 2024, covering the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals.
“Senior citizens and those with medical needs are exempted from these restrictions,” the statement further said in a post on X.
Western Railways also urged passengers to plan accordingly and “adhere to the new regulations for a smooth and safe travel experience during the festive period.”
The move comes hours after nine people were injured at Western Railway’s Bandra Terminus on Sunday while trying to board a train to Gorakhapur in Uttar Pradesh.
