Chartered flight for Team India: DGCA seeks report from Air India for leaving flyers in lurch | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought a report from Air India on reports of deploying a Boeing 777 to bring back the Indian cricket team from Barbados, which was initially scheduled to fly from Newark to Delhi causing inconvenience to passengers of the scheduled flight.
Meanwhile, an official from the airline carrier clarified that the majority of passengers who had booked tickets for the Newark to Delhi flight on July 2 were notified in advance about the change.However, a few passengers who were not informed about the cancellation arrived at the airport and were later transported by road to New York, where they were accommodated on another flight to Delhi.
The Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup on June 29 and is scheduled to land in New Delhi on Thursday morning. They are traveling from Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados on a chartered flight with the special call sign “AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup.” The departure of the cricket team was postponed due to Hurricane Beryl.
