ChatGPT, the prominent AI-powered chatbot, has encountered a worldwide outage, rendering millions of users incapable of accessing its service. The disruption commenced shortly before 7 PM ET (5:30 am IST) and has impacted not only ChatGPT, but likewise OpenAI’s API and Sora services.
Via X, OpenAI conveyed an update: “We’re experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry and we’ll keep you updated!”

The disruption occurred after Meta platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook sustained outages for thousands of users globally on Wednesday, causing distress to millions of social media users.
When users attempted to log in, they were presented with the message “ChatGPT is currently unavailable”. Nevertheless, the website indicates the problem has been identified and the OpenAI team is “working to roll out a fix”.
Downdetector, a platform that tracks online outages, has documented more than 28,000 grievances from ChatGPT users.
