NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday thanked Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren after the latter offered a monetary assistance of Rs 2 crore to the flood affected northeastern state.
Taking to X, Sarma said, “Hon’ble CM of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren Ji has graciously offered Rs 2 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Assam to aid flood-affected people.”
“On behalf of the people of Assam, I deeply appreciate the generosity of the kind-hearted people of Jharkhand and the Hon’ble chief minister,” he added.
This comes a day after Assam CM Sarma said the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections are crucial for protecting tribals and Hindus, as the “demography of the state is changing due to Bangladeshi infiltration” and accused Jharkhand CM Soren of failing to act against these infiltrators.
Sarma alleged that during recent Muharram processions, disturbances occurred in several locations, including Barkagaon and Jamshedpur, and that Palestinian flags were displayed without government intervention. He vowed that the BJP would take strict action against such activities if they come to power.
“The Congress and JMM speak about the Constitution. Does the Constitution allow hoisting of Palestinian flags? When the BJP forms the government in Jharkhand, strict action will be taken against those who had hoisted the flags,” Sarma said.
At least 113 lives have been claimed in floods, landslides, lightning and storms in Assan so far.
More than 1.30 lakh people in 10 districts continued to remain affected
