NEW DELHI: A new book has shed light on an alleged rift between Prince Harry and David Beckham, with Meghan Markle‘s name at the center of the controversy. The tell-all claims that the Duchess instructed Harry to “snub” David Beckham during the 2018 Invictus Games event, a move that reportedly dealt a severe blow to the soccer star. However, the book also suggests that Beckham responded four years later in a way that may have left the Sussexes seething.
Once close friends with both royal princes, David Beckham and his wife Victoria’s relationship with Harry took a turn for the worse after his marriage to Meghan Markle in May 2018. Tom Bower‘s explosive new book, “The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power,” further explores this strained relationship.
According to the book, just six months after the royal wedding, the once-friendly dynamic between Harry and Beckham took a ‘brutal’ turn during the Invictus Games event in Sydney, Australia.
Beckham, who was invited, found himself isolated and unable to approach the Duke. “Arriving on the agreed day to meet Prince Harry he was perplexed [as to] why officials were playing a dance to keep him happy, but away from Harry.” Bower wrote in his book. “Beckham found himself alone at the Invictus Games stadium.”
Upon inquiring about the reason for his exclusion, he supposedly discovered that “the prince had clearly stated that the footballer was not to be allowed close to him in any way.” The book claims that he later learned, “The exclusion order, it later transpired, was issued by Meghan.” The alleged reason being, “She did not want any competition in the media from Beckham, and especially not from his wife Victoria.”
Four years after the reported snub and two years post-Megexit, David Beckham seemingly took a subtle, yet public, act of revenge. In November 2022, Beckham traveled to Boston to attend a prestigious event celebrating Prince William and Kate.
This star-studded gathering, which included top celebrities and President Biden, coincided with an event Harry and Meghan were attending in New York, attempting to forge new connections. Tom Bower’s book implies that Beckham’s presence in Boston, alongside the future monarch and queen, effectively overshadowed the Sussexes.
Bower asserts that this was Beckham’s calculated response to the earlier incident in Sydney. “Beckham had got his revenge for the Sydney snub.”
