Kartik Aaryan starrer ‘Chandu Champion‘ hits the screens on Friday and the movie has opened to a lukewarm number at the box office. Despite the figures, Kartik is being hailed for his incredible physical transformation in the movie. In ‘Chandu Champion’, Kartik Aaryan portrays Murlikant Petkar, India’s inaugural Paralympic gold medalist.
For his role, Kartik exercised extensively with boxing trainer Tridev Pandey and lost 18 kilos.Speaking about the same, Tridev had previously told ETimes, “We started with the basics as he plays a boxer in the film and has fights with many boxers. He needed to have the body of a boxer who has speed, strength and agility. So I trained him the way a boxer would train before his fights. He needed an entire transformation because for the first time he was going to take off his shirt. When we began training, Kartik’s body fat was 39 percent. That was because he had just finished Freddy and his weight had reached 90 kgs. We reduced it to 72 kgs naturally, without any steroids.”
Speaking about Kartik’s dedication to the routine, Tridev added, “Kartik really supported me a lot with the training, he was eager to learn everything. He wasn’t very good with skipping but he has now picked up 14-15 styles of skipping, from not being able to do a single push up to now doing pushups after putting 50-60 kilo plates on his back, Kartik really pushed himself a lot and that makes the trainer’s job easy.Kartik’s birthday was in November and a lot of his Bollywood friends who were present for the celebration knew that he was on diet so they got him healthy cakes. He cut the cake and didn’t eat even a single piece. I had to go up to him and tell him to eat it but still he didn’t. That was the level of the dedication and commitment he had for the film. In my 17 years of experience, I have not seen someone like him.”
‘Chandu Champion’ has opened with Rs 4.75 crore at the box office.
