How Digi Yatra will ‘help’ tourist from Pakistan and other country
Khadakbhavi said that the company has already developed a prototype for wider application of Digi Yatra and held initial discussions with several ministries, including the Ministry of Tourism and Railway ministry to implement Digi Yatra for foreign visitor registration.
Giving an example he said that nationals of certain countries such as Pakistan are required to report their arrival and intended departure at each place of stay within 24 hours at the nearest police station. Tourists of other nationalities who hold a visa for a period of more than 180 days are also required to register at the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The integration of Digi Yatra services here may help streamline the process for both law and order agencies as well as tourism ministry.
He said, “The vision is to create a travel stack for seamless movement across India. This would enhance the travel experience for a tourist who has to produce a passport for check-in at a hotel and police stations for verification.”
How Digi Yatra can improve the verification process
Another key advantage of Digi Yatra over traditional methods, like photocopied ID checks, is enhanced data security. Khadakbhavi explained that photocopies and screenshots can easily expose personal information.
To compare, Digi Yatra IDs don’t contain any sensitive details. The system utilises “hash values” – a unique numerical code – to identify information without storing the actual data. This means even if a breach occurred, a passenger’s name, Aadhaar number, face scan, or passport information would remain secure.
