Eid Mubarak Wishes & Quotes: Happy Eid-ul-Adha 2024: 25 meaningful Eid Mubarak quotes and messages to send on Bakrid | – Times of India

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is a major celebration for Muslims worldwide. And unlike many other festivals and days, Eid is not celebrated on a fixed date. When Eid is observed depends on moon sighting, typically starting first in Gulf regions and later in South Asia.
In 2024, Eid-ul-Adha is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, June 16.

Why is it celebrated?

Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated as the day of great sacrifice and redemption. It marks the story of Prophet Ibrahim, who was commanded by Allah in a dream to sacrifice his son Ishmael. Unfortunately, Ishmael was extremely beloved to Ibrahim, but he decided to go ahead with it anyhow.
But, just before the sacrifice was about to happen, Allah, pleased with his devotion, intervened and provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated every year as a means to honour the ultimate act of faith in God by Ibrahim. His willingness to sacrifice his son showed people his deep devotion to God’s will. From then on, on Bakrid, Muslims reflect on their faith and belief, wishing to improve their character and start a fresh chapter.

Rituals and rules of Bakrid

The day of Eid-ul-Adha begins with a special prayer called Eid Salah, performed in mosques or open fields with the devotees facing Mecca. The central ritual is the sacrifice of an animal, typically a goat or sheep, symbolising Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son. The meat from the sacrifice is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for friends and relatives, and one for the poor and needy.
