Explained: GATE 2025 two-paper combination – Times of India

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has opened the online registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. Interested and eligible candidates can visit the official GATE 2025 website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in, to complete the registration. The registration window will remain open until September 26, 2024. IIT Roorkee has scheduled GATE 2025 for February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025, with results expected in March 2025.
As in previous years, candidates can opt for either one or two papers for the entrance exam, requiring only a single application form. However, candidates cannot choose two paper combinations beyond those available on the website. Each GATE 2025 paper will be worth 100 marks, with a General Aptitude (GA) section accounting for 15 marks and the remaining 85 marks covering the core subject.
For the two-paper option, candidates must first select a primary test paper, with the second paper chosen from the allowed combinations. Candidates can check the allowed combinations here:

Candidates can click here to check the two paper combinations on the official website of GATE 2025.
According to the official GATE 2025 website, a candidate’s examination centre for the second paper may differ (but will be in the same city) from that of the first paper due to infrastructure and scheduling constraints. The website also states that GATE 2025 will not be liable for any legal obligations arising from this issue. Additionally, the website mentions that under unforeseen circumstances, certain combinations may be removed from the list. In such cases, the fee paid for the second test paper will be refunded to the candidates.
