This incident is part of a larger trend of rising crime cases across different parts of Pakistan. Similar incidents were reported in the month of June as well.
In the Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on June 8, a 22-year-old female school teacher who had contracted a free-will marriage was killed in the name of ‘honour.’ The incident occurred in the Tazagram area, where the woman was dragged out of a car and killed, nine months after her court marriage. The police have started an investigation and collected evidence from the crime scene, while the attackers remain at large.
Two sisters who had contracted free will marriages were also killed in the name of ‘honour’ on June 4. According to the District Police Officer (DPO), the sisters had married boys they loved against the wishes of their family and were brought back due to a decision made by a “Panchayat.” The police said that the sisters were killed by their father, brother, and uncle.
