Focus should be on challenges along eastern border: Shah to DGPs | India News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the three-day DGP/IGP conference in Bhubaneswar on Friday. He urged the top police officials to focus on the emerging security challenges along the Eastern border, immigration, and trends in urban policing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the DGPs at the conference on Saturday and Sunday. According to an official statement, Shah advocated for implementing a “zero-tolerance strategy and zero-tolerance action to implement the zero-tolerance policy.”
The Union Home Minister acknowledged significant improvements in security situations across Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East, and Left-Wing Extremism affected regions, while commending police leadership efforts. Shah noted that the recently introduced criminal laws shifted the criminal justice system’s focus from punishment to justice orientation.
He highlighted that these new laws align with Indian traditions, while emphasising the security establishment’s crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and becoming the third-largest economy by 2027. The Home Minister praised police leadership for ensuring smooth General Elections-2024 and effective implementation of three new criminal laws.
Shah stated, “During the next two days of the conference, the top brass of police leadership of the country would chalk out a roadmap to counter existing and emerging national security challenges, including LWE, coastal security, narcotics, cyber crime, and economic security.”
