Four held for drunk driving, vandalising police station lock-up | India News – Times of India


MUMBAI: An inebriated autorickshaw driver and three of his friends were arrested by the Bandra Police recently for rash driving, creating a ruckus and obstructing a public servant from doing his duty. After being lodged in the lock-up at Bandra Police station, the group vandalised the lock-up, which led to an additional case being registered against them.
Police said the accused are history sheeters. Around 2.15 am on May 26, patrolling policemen near the additional police commissioner’s office on Bandra’s Carter Road noticed an auto driver driving rashly. The police intercepted the auto and on questioning the driver, Qurbaan Shaikh, 30, they gathered that he was sloshed.
While the police were making further inquiries with Qurbaan, three of his friends who were seated in the passenger seat started to create a ruckus. The trio, Aslam Shaikh, 31, Shafiq Shaikh, 26, and Ramzan Sayyad, 30, were also sloshed. They stared to yell, making it difficult for the cops to do their job.
The quartet was hauled to the police station and booked. Later in the morning, when the lock-up in-charge, assistant inspector Sudhakar Shinde took charge, he found that the group had smashed a tubelight in the lock-up, broken a portion of the door and continued to yell, verbally abuse and threaten the policemen at the police station. An additional case was then slapped against them.
