G20 taskforce suggests financial plan, entity for DPI – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A report by India’s G20 taskforce has suggested the creation of a viable financial plan to support the development and ongoing maintenance of digital public infrastructure (DPI) components, ensuring the availability of resources for implementing DPI.
“This may include interested countries, organisations managing DPIs, multilateral development banks, DPI-specific funds, project financing mechanisms, investment promotion incentives,” the report by the taskforce headed by India’s G20 sherpa Amitabh Kant and Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys, has recommended.
Calling for setting up an institution to deal with the issue, the taskforce has also suggested an existing body may be identified to foster and harness DPI ecosystems across various regions and countries, especially global south countries.
It has said that the body may be of global standard with the scope of multinational presence and should be able to work on policy dimensions, formulation and implementation of strategies with appropriate technical and academic expertise.
“It may promote knowledge sharing on DPI and also undertake the role of guiding nations through effective deployment of their resources. It shall also be capable of working across various sectors and eventually, be able to take the responsibility of developing and setting appropriate standards in various technical domains of DPI,” said the report.
It also said India and other countries with advanced DPI should also focus on building on the DPI they have, to continue driving inclusion and progress domestically towards more ambitious outcomes.
India’s leadership on DPI such as Aadhaar, UPI, Cowin platforms has been acknowledged globally and in the G20 India presidency.
