Grap 3 reintroduced in Delhi NCR: What it means for schools – Times of India

Delhi-NCR Implements GRAP-3 Again: Schools Shift to Hybrid Mode Amid Rising Pollution

NEW DELHI: The air quality in Delhi has once again deteriorated, leading to the reimplementation of GRAP-3 (Graded Response Action Plan) in the Delhi-NCR region. As of today, December 16, 2024, the GRAP sub-committee under the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has activated measures to curb the escalating pollution levels in the capital. The decision follows a significant increase in pollution, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 345 at 7 AM, approaching the hazardous threshold of 400.
Hybrid Classes for Younger Students
One of the major impacts of this pollution spike has been on schools, particularly for younger students. Under the newly enforced GRAP-3 guidelines, schools have been directed to shift to a hybrid model for children up to Class V. This means parents now have the option to choose between sending their children to school or opting for online classes. This change aims to safeguard children’s health, particularly given the heightened levels of particulate matter in the air.
Additional Restrictions Under GRAP-3
The reactivation of GRAP-3 has led to several new restrictions in Delhi-NCR. These include a ban on the movement of diesel cargo vehicles, a halt to all construction and excavation activities, and the continuation of measures such as the closure of brick kilns and power plants. These steps are aimed at controlling the emission of pollutants and ensuring that air quality does not worsen further.
The reintroduction of GRAP-3 reflects the severity of the air pollution problem in Delhi-NCR, and its impact on schools and daily life is expected to continue as long as pollution levels remain high.
