AHMEDABAD: If you thought Gujarat had seen the last of weather systems this monsoon, think again. A new one, in the form of a well-marked low-pressure area from the Bay of Bengal, is moving towards Gujarat and is likely to affect the local weather Sep 1 onwards, bringing heavy to very heavy rain.
IMD says there are chances of heavy showers in parts of Navsari and Valsad on Sunday, heavy to very heavy rain in Vadodara and Chhota Udepur on Monday, heavy rain in Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Bharuch, Bhavnagar and Narmada on Tuesday, and heavy to very heavy rain in Narmada and Bharuch on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad largely remained sunny on Friday, with the maximum temperature reaching 33.2 degrees celsius, which was close to normal. Light rain is likely today.
Cyclonic storm ‘Asna’ moves away from Gujarat coast
The deep depression hovering over Gujarat has intensified into a cyclonic storm named ‘Asna’ near the Kutch coast, moving west-northwestward at 6 km/h.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm is expected to continue moving away from India over the next two days.
As of Friday, ‘Asna’ was located 100 km west-northwest of Naliya and 170 km southeast of Karachi, Pakistan. IMD predicts that the storm may weaken back into a deep depression by Sunday over the Arabian Sea.
