MUMBAI: In yet another case of hit-and-run, a woman lost her life when a BMW hit the bike she was riding with her husband early on Sunday morning.
The fishers couple were on their way to fetch fish when the accident occurred. The impact was so severe that the 45-year-old woman was thrown onto the car’s bonnet. The driver, instead of stopping, continued driving for about 100 meters before fleeing the scene.
The injured woman was taken to Nair Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The accident happened around 5.30am, between Atria Mall in Worli and the beginning of the coastal road on the same stretch. According to sources, the BMW was being driven at a high speed when it collided with the couple’s bike. The husband fell to one side with his bike, while his wife was thrown onto the bonnet.
According to sources, there were two people in the car. “We have detained the driver and are searching for another person,” said a police officer. The car has also been seized, and the police will inform RTO officers to conduct an examination.
There were reports that the driver of the car was a minor, but the police stated that according to their information, he was not.
Legal proceedings were underway, and a medical test will be conducted to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
When asked if the driver was related to a politician, the police said they were gathering the details. The ownership of the car is also being investigated.
