Sachin Tendulkar‘s words reflected that he was choked with emotions as the Indian batting legend penned a heartfelt note for his father, Ramesh Tendulkar, who died on May 19, 1999 – marking this as his 25th death anniversary year.
Sachin posted a picture of himself standing by his father’s chair at the Mumbai Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya, where his dad — a literary great and a poet — was fondly remembered on Saturday.
“It has been 25 years since Baba left us, but standing by his old chair today, it feels like he is still here. I was only 26 at the time, and now, at 51, I see even more clearly how much he impacted my life and the lives of many others,” Sachin’s post on microblogging platform ‘X’ read.
“Visiting this place after 43 years on his 25th death anniversary was incredibly emotional. His wisdom and kindness continue to inspire me. I miss you every single day, Baba, and I hope I am living up to the values you instilled in me,” he wrote.

Sachin was playing the 1999 World Cup in England, when the news of his father’s death reached him. He returned home immediately to be with his family, only to rejoin the squad and hit a century against Kenya. He dedicated that hundred to his father.
The legend ended his career as the first and still the only batter to have scored hundred international centuries (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs).
