IMD issues red alert for Delhi NCR after heavy rains, several flights diverted | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi and other NCR regions, effective until 9pm today.
Heavy rainfall was reported in key locations such as Parliament and Pant Marg.
The rainfall caused heavy traffic congestion and waterlogging in several regions.
Flight AI918 from Dubai to Delhi, and UK998 from Pune to Delhi, and 6E882 from Mumbai to Delhi were diverted to Lucknow due to bad weather and congestion in Delhi.

Earlier, the IMD had forecasted significant rain for Delhi on Wednesday, with the weather conditions anticipated to last until August 5.
IndiaMetSky Weather has also projected heavy to very heavy rains for Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Rewari, Nuh, Rohtak, Panipat, Baghpat, and parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh through tomorrow. The forecast includes potential waterlogging, intermittent rains, and strong lightning strikes.
Delhi’s lieutenant governor has instructed officers to remain vigilant and address waterlogging issues, particularly in areas such as coaching centers.
Several locations, including Lutyen’s Delhi, Kashmere Gate, and Rajinder Nagar, have experienced flooding due to the rain. The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors, secure windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel. It is recommended to seek safe shelter and avoid areas with tree cover.
