NEW DELHI: In their ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight match against Bangladesh on Saturday, Team India set a new personal record by hitting 13 sixes, the most they have ever hit in a single T20 World Cup game.
India surpassed their previous record of 11 sixes, which they set against England in a match during the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup.
That match also featured Yuvraj Singh‘s historic achievement of hitting six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad, making him the first Indian to accomplish this feat in international cricket.
The most number of sixes in a single T20 WC innings by a team is by the Netherlands, who smashed 19 sixes against Ireland in an inning back in the 2014 edition of the tournament to chase down 190 runs in just 13.5 overs.
In terms of India’s highest totals in T20 World Cup history, this match against Bangladesh ranks as their third-highest (196/5), with their highest score being 218/4, which they achieved against England in 2007.
Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya each contributed three sixes to India’s total of 13 sixes against Bangladesh, while Rishabh Pant added two more, and skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with one each.
Talking about the match, India registered a comprehensive 50-run victory to inch closer to semi-final berth in the T20 World Cup.
