Indian astronaut likely on-board ISS by year end: US envoy | India News
MUMBAI: An Indian astronaut is expected to be on board the International Space Station (ISS) by the end of this year, US ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has said.
Garcetti stated this during a media interaction at an event to mark Indo-US space co-operation.
The ambassador said the process of selecting the astronaut has been initiated in India and he would be given training in the US.
In all probability he will be flown to the International Space Station (ISS) by Space X.
He said India and US should also collaborate more in space research.
With regards to the launch of Nisar spacecraft — a joint Indo-Us earth observation satellite — he said the launch is slated for year end. It got delayed due to technical issues.
He added Nisar mission marked the first hardware collaboration between the India and the US.
Neil Armstrong stepping on to the surface of the moon and the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the south pole region of the moon “changed our perception of the world”, he further said.
