NEW DELHI: Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), tied Anil Kumble‘s record and became the second captain in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to have the second-highest number of wickets in a single season.
In the current IPL 2024 season, Cummins has taken 17 wickets, matching Kumble’s record from the 2010 season with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
In the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match in Chennai on Friday, Cummins took one wicket and outwitted Tom Kohler-Cadmore of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to reach the milestone.
As a captain, Shane Warne continues to hold the record for most wickets in an IPL season. With the Rajasthan-based team in 2008, the Australian claimed 19 wickets.

With his team set to play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on Sunday, Cummins has the chance to equal and even better the late great Warne’s record.
Cummins, for whom Hyderabad paid Rs 20.50 crore in the IPL auction, led Australia to both the World Test Championship title and an ODI World Cup triumph last year.
