Is Tom Cruise FINALLY set to play Iron Man opposite Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom in upcoming ‘Avengers’ films? | – Times of India

Speculation is rife that Tom Cruise may finally don the iconic Iron Man suit. Two years after rumours ran wild of the Hollywood superstar joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the film ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’, new viral rumours suggest that the upcoming Russo Brothers directorial might just see him in action.
Rumours doing the rounds online suggest that the megastar could take on the role of a multiverse variant of Tony Stark, opposite Robert Downey Jr., who has confirmed his return as Doctor Doom in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

While neither Marvel Studios nor Cruise has officially confirmed the casting, fan theories have been swirling that the actor could likely play a variant of the character who met his end in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. If there is any truth to the rumours, then it would come as a welcomed update to fans, considering that Cruise was originally considered for the role of Tony Stark before Robert Downey Jr. was cast. With the multiverse opening up endless possibilities, it would be interesting to see the two superstars face off on the big screen.

Meanwhile, reports also suggest that RDJ, who is expected to earn over $200 Million for his big return to the MCU, will likely only star in the 2 films. Fans have noted that Tony Stark from Earth 616 (the MCU’s current timeline) will remain dead, allowing his similar-looking variant to wreak havoc as the supervillain.

While it has been confirmed that RDJ will star in ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, IMDB lists only ‘The Fantastic Four’ stars Joseph Quinn,

Pedro Pascal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Vanessa Kirbyother as superheroes set to feature in the films. Rumours are rife that other familiar faces, including Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine, Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man, and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson among other characters are expected to appear in the movies that have been slated for 2026 and 2027 releases, respectively.
