Jay Shah takes charge as ICC Chair, aims to expand cricket’s global reach | Cricket News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Jay Shah has officially started his role as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chair on Sunday, marking a new chapter for the sport.
After assuming the new role, Shah shared his plan to expand cricket’s global reach, emphasising the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He also wants to create more opportunities for players and fans.
Shah expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the ICC Directors and Member Boards. “I am honoured to be starting in the role of ICC Chair and want to thank the ICC Directors and Member Boards for their support and trust in me to undertake this important role,” he said.
Shah’s vision involves supporting all formats of cricket. He also wants to accelerate the growth of women’s cricket.
“This is an exciting time for the sport as we build up to the LA28 Olympic Games and strive to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before. We also stand at a critical juncture in terms of the coexistence of multiple formats and accelerating the growth of the women’s game. There is huge potential for the game of cricket globally, with so much opportunity to engage with existing and new fans, while ensuring the best resources and platforms for our cricketers around the world,” he added.
Shah believes cricket has huge global potential. He sees many opportunities to connect with current and new fans. He wants to ensure the best resources and platforms are available for cricketers worldwide.
Shah acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Greg Barclay. “I would also like to thank Greg Barclay for his leadership in the role for the past four years and the milestones achieved during that period,” he said.

Shah brings significant administrative experience to the role. He has been the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI since 2019, the youngest person to hold the position.
During his time with the BCCI, Shah achieved several milestones. These include record-breaking IPL media rights deals and the creation of the Women’s Premier League. He also introduced initiatives like the Test Cricket Incentive Scheme. He has also held the position of President of the Asian Cricket Council. He also served as the Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
