The GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance said letting go of lifelong friendship because of the election is a terrible mistake as friends might not be necessarily on the same page politically. Donald Trump’s running mate said many of his and his wife Usha’s friends do not agree with Vance’s politics. He said many of his friends, and acquaintances who like him may not vote for him. “But that doesn’t make them bad people.”
“Whether you vote for me, whether you vote for Donald Trump, whether you vote for Kamala Harris…don’t cast aside family members and lifelong friendships. Politics is not worth it. And I think we follow that principle, we will heal the divide in this country,” JD said speaking at the News Nation Town Hall.
JD’s advice came as he was speaking about the biggest threat to democracy, in his opinion– censorship. “The idea that we should be trying to silence our fellow Americans rather than persuade them and talk to them — that’s always gonna lead to people being pissed off because they don’t like to be told what to think or what to say. They like to talk to one another. And that’s what I will always commit to,” Vance said.
“As your vice president for the next four years, I’ll always try to talk to people. We’ll go out there, and we will do events with people who disagree with us. We’ll answer questions from people who don’t always see eye to eye. But I think if we set the tone at the top the leadership of this country is all about communicating with one another I think that’s how we start to heal the divide,” Vance said.
JD Vance and his Indian-origin wife Usha both were staunch Trump critics earlier but explained their shift in ideology. JD Vance was embroiled in controversies after he was chosen as Donald Trump’s running mate. His past comments — childless cat lady — antagonized many including Taylor Swift and Jennifer Anniston.
