Joram director Devashish Makhija claims to be financially ‘wrecked’: ‘Can’t pay rent’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India



Director Devashish Makhija, who is known for directing the films ‘Ajji’, ‘Bhonsle’, and ‘Joram’, spoke of having financial difficulties. He recently discussed his financial situation at length and said that he isn’t even sure he would be able to pay his rent.
Makhija stated that nothing had changed for him over the years, therefore he didn’t want anyone to romanticize his condition.He stated that he is offered ‘peanuts’ as soon as the producers learn about his financial situation. During an appearance on the Long Live Cinema YouTube channel, he said, “Even today, when I call an actor or someone to meet me, they say, ‘Where’s your office?’ and I say, ‘I don’t have an office, so you tell me where you are, or we’ll meet in a coffee shop, and I’ll tell you which coffee shop because I can’t afford most of the coffee shops in Versova’. I’m still in that place.”
Makhija claimed that people criticize him since he typically travels by bus or auto. The director further added, “I get called for meetings in studios, and the executive calling me tells me where to park my car. I say, ‘I don’t have a car’. I don’t even have a two-wheeler. So they ask me how I’ll come, and I tell them I’ll come by auto, or if it’s far, by bus.”
Despite having helmed four feature films, he claimed that his life hasn’t really altered. He shared, “The minute I enter those meetings, they think of me as someone who travels by auto and bus, so they talk to me that way. They think that I’ll work for peanuts. That has not changed for me in 20 years and four feature films.”
The director discussed how his lack of a steady income prevented him from being able to organize his life or career. The director stated that he continues to hit places to make sure he is getting paid, but he is unsure of how long he can continue in this manner. Makhija claimed that in order to not miss any opportunities to earn money, he is working on four stories at once.
The filmmaker stated, “I don’t know if I’ll be able to pay my cook next month to eat her food, all these things are playing on my mind. My insecurities are tangible, and they’ve piled up to the point that the repercussions will be felt tomorrow director Devashish Makhija says he’s financially ‘wrecked’: Can’t pay rent, not two years from now. I need to keep working because I don’t know where the next cheque’s coming from. I need to be firing on 20 fronts, hoping that one bullet hits the bullseye.”
Makhija claimed that he had been dealing with these fears for more than ten years. According to the director, he’s not even sure if he can afford to be optimistic about things improving.
