‘Kalki 2898 AD’ box office collection day 1: Prabhas starrer earns Rs 180 crore worldwide – Times of India



The mythological science fiction directed by Nag Ashwin was released in theatres yesterday, June 17. The film received a lot of positive reviews and ithas been critically acclaimed. ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ made a huge noise all over the world and the movie has performed well in the theatres on its opening day.
The Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan starrer is said to have had a historic opening with a collection of Rs 95 crore in India and it marks the first film to have the biggest opening over surpassing ‘RRR’, ‘Salaar’ and ‘Jawan’ with the country wide box office collection.
The box office reports according to Sacnilk estimated the film in India alone made Rs 95 crore and Telugu states being themajor contributor with over Rs 64 crore grossed at the box office and followed by Hindi version of the film earning Rs 24 crore, Rs 4 crore in Tamil and Rs 2 crore in Malayalam. Apart from the collection made in India for ver Rs 95 crore, the overseas collection amounts to Rs 65 crore, adding up to the film grossing Rs 180 crore at the box office worldwide.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ marks the third ever biggest opening following ‘RRR’ and ‘Baahubali’ which made over Rs 215 crore at the worldwide box office collection. The film is said to have run in theatres successfully with maximum occupation and the film has officially become the highest grosser in India on its opening day.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a film set in the futuristic dystopian era and the story revovles around the birth of Kalki avatar after the post-apocalyse situation and with only the city of Kasi left for survival. While Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of immortal Aswathama who protects Sumati who gives birth to lord Vishnu’s Kalki avatar from the supreme Yaskin, running the complex world played by Kamal Haasan. A bounty is placed to kill Sum-80 and that’s when Prabhas’ role as Bhairavaa along with his Bujji comes in picture. The film starts with the end of Mahabarat era and ends in the future year 2898 creating a unique concept.
