AGRA: An advocate, his three sons and two of their associates have been arrested on the charges of abducting and murdering a 40-year-old woman lawyer of Kasganj, Mohini Tomar, on Sept 3. Her body was found in a canal a day later, sparking outrage among the legal community in UP.
After the body was found, her husband, Bijendra Tomar 42, filed a case against advocate Mustafa Kamil (60), his sons Asad Mustafa (25), Haider Mustafa (27), Salman Mustafa (26), and two of their associates — advocate Munajir Rafi (45) and one Keshav Mishra (46).
The case was registered at Kasganj police station under multiple sections of BNS, including 103 (murder), 140(1) (kidnapping or abduction with intent to murder), and 62(1) (criminal conspiracy).
Police said Mustafa Kamil & his 3 sons were arrested on Sunday, and Rafi and Mishra were arrested on Monday.
In his police complaint, Tomar alleged that the accused called his wife from outside Kasganj court premises and then abducted her. They then took her to an undisclosed location and murdered her. He also alleged that his wife had been under immense stress after “opposing the bail plea of Mustafa Kamil’s sons in an old case.”
Tomar said she had confided in him about receiving constant threats from the accused.
Kasganj SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik said, “All six accused named in the FIR have been arrested, and investigation is on.”
Police had earlier said the post-mortem report did not clarify the cause of death, noting that only a minor injury was there on her chest. The autopsy report also said no water was found in her stomach, ruling out drowning. The viscera has been preserved for further analysis, said police.
