Macklemore Faces Backlash Over ‘F**k America’ Remarks at Pro-Palestine Concert | – Times of India

Rapper Macklemore has addressed the backlash surrounding his controversial remarks made during a pro-Palestine benefit concert titled ‘Palestine Will Live Forever’.
The artist, known for hits like ‘Thrift Shop‘, performed at the event in Seattle, where he made headlines for saying “F**k America” on stage. A video of the incident, which gained traction on social media platform X, shows Macklemore making the comment during his performance of “Hind’s Hall 2,” a song that supports the Palestinian cause.
In response to the controversy, Macklemore took to Instagram on Wednesday to clarify his statement and reaffirm his stance. In a lengthy post, he admitted that his words may have been expressed “imperfectly” in the heat of the moment. The star wrote, “My thoughts and feelings are not always expressed perfectly or politely. Sometimes I slip up and get caught up in the moment. Saturday night was one of those times… Unfortunately, the historic event in my hometown that brought thousands of people together to raise awareness and money for the people of Palestine has become overshadowed by two words.”
Macklemore also criticised the US government’s support for Israel in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, describing the situation as “genocide.” He said he has been “disillusioned and disheartened as our government has continued to unequivocally fund and support Israel’s on-going violence against the people of Palestine.”
The rapper has long been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights. In May, he released Hind’s Hall, a protest song supporting pro-Palestinian demonstrators and calling for an end to Israel’s actions in Gaza, with all proceeds going to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. He has also participated in protests and issued statements condemning the violence in Gaza.

In his latest Instagram post, Macklemore acknowledged the personal cost of his activism, noting that he has lost endorsements, shows, and business relationships due to his outspoken stance. Despite these setbacks, he remains “unwavering” in his support for a “Free Palestine.” He concluded by stating that his pursuit is rooted in peace, love, and equality, adding, “I don’t think I’m alone.”
On the same day, it was announced that Macklemore would no longer perform at Las Vegas’ Neon City Festival due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
