Maharashtra govt approves renaming of Pune airport to ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj’ airport | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra government on Monday approved a proposal to rename Pune’s international airport as ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport’. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Eknath Shinde, with the proposal now set to be forwarded to the Centre for final approval.
Chief minister Shinde announced the decision in an X post, along with updates on other schemes and benefits for the people.

Minister of state for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, also took to X to share the news, stating: “The first step towards renaming the international airport in Pune as ‘Jagadguru Santshrestha Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport’ has been taken today, and the proposal given by us has been approved by the state government. The said proposal has been approved in the cabinet meeting and will be sent to the central government for further processing. This proposal will be approved in the upcoming Cabinet, Deputy chief minister Devendraji Fadnavis did it in Pune just two days ago. Devendraji has approved this proposal in the very first cabinet after making the announcement.”

Union minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier expressed his support for the renaming, assuring backing from the central government. Mohol confirmed that the first step towards renaming the airport has been successfully completed.
